Whether it’s endless episodes of Friends or The Office on repeat, there’s nothing like finding comfort in our favourite TV shows. And with some TV schedules and new releases affected this weekend, there’s even more reason to fall back on old favourites. Stylist Loves’ deputy editor Annie Simpson will be rewatching ITV’s classic Northumberland-set detective series Vera, a crime drama for cosy days: “Forget tense, twisty plots, the ever-familiar formula is always an easy watch – with Vera’s trademark no-nonsense sass keeping it entertaining.” When the world feeds dark and depressing, Stylist’s deputy editor and photography director Tom Gormer turns to another woman: Nigella. “Endless repeats of her cookery shows [on Netflix or BBC iPlayer] soothe me with food, drink and a pantry full of delights.”
Proving that laughter really is the best medicine, social media director Chloe Laws always goes back to New Girl on Disney+. “The characters feel like friends, and no one makes me laugh like Winston and his cat.” BBC One’s ever-relatable Starstruck is the top choice for Stylist’s editorial assistant Holly Bullock, thanks to Rose Matafeo’s spot-on portrayal of 20-something London life blended with “heart-warming romance and a depiction of female friendship that will make you want to hug everyone you love”. In a similar vein, contributor Moya Crockett loves Better Things on BBC iPlayer, a comedy-drama series about a single mother raising three daughters in LA that’s “poignant and profound in its portrayal of family, as well as laugh-out-loud funny”. Time to wrap yourself in a televisual hug.
