Let the reign of House Targaryen begin.

After learning that the new House Of The Dragon series is coming to our screens this August, we’ve been patiently counting down the days until we can lose ourselves in the fantastical world of Game Of Thrones. Only a week to go, people.

The series, which is a prequel to Game Of Thrones, tells the story of Rhaenyra (Emma D’Arcy) and Daemon Targaryen (Matt Smith) and the war of the Seven Kingdoms. The events in this series take place 200 years before Game Of Thrones and it’s based on The Dying Of The Dragons, a novella found in George RR Martin’s 2018 novel Fire & Blood.

During the London premiere of the series last night (Monday 15 September), more details were revealed about House Of The Dragon. Paddy Considine (who plays King Viserys Targaryen) said: “This is Game Of Thrones. It’s not a spin-off – that was what impressed me when I read the script.”

Producer Ryan J. Condal also added: “There’s definitely connectivity [with Game Of Thrones]. It’s tricky because it’s 200 years so there are no characters that survive so you’re connecting ideas and themes and objects.

“There are definitely things you will recognize from the future.”
