You’re Going To Love: Araw
In the latest of our series focusing on up-and-coming independent brands with female and non-binary founders, allow us to introduce you to Araw

What is it? A small-batch ice cream brand inspired by cultures from around the world.

Who’s behind it? Founder Keziah Manluctao, who left her job as an automation consultant at a big IT company after turning to ice cream for comfort during the pandemic. Unable to travel and missing the food she remembered from her childhood in the Philippines, she launched artisan ice cream company Araw (the Filipino word for ‘sun’ or ‘day’) last October. “I wanted to pay homage and celebrate my Filipino heritage, [while] allowing others to escape through my ice cream by incorporating cultures and authentic flavours from around the world,” says Keziah.

Why you’ll love it: If you always have at least one tub of ice cream in the freezer, but feel bored by chocolate, strawberry and vanilla, Araw will be right up your street. Keziah aims to offer happiness and escapism through gloriously inventive flavours such as Puto Bumbong (a traditional Filipino rice dessert), Basque Cheesecake and Roasted Banana with Tahini Fudge. We recommend starting with her favourite flavour, Ube Halaya (aka purple yam), which also comes in a vegan variety. Order online, or pick up from select retailers across London – your freezer will thank you. From £8, arawlondon.com

Add interest to warm-weather outfits with rustic rope detailing

Straw, raffia, linen – our love affair with natural materials in summer is nothing new. But this season, the trend for rope accents on clothing and accessories has gone from strength to strength, spurred on by the cult colourful flats by sustainable French label Nomadic State of Mind (from £55). Marks and Spencer’s strappy sandals (£35) keep selling out, while Anthropologie’s open-toe knotted design (£80) offers a city-appropriate take that’s more utilitarian than beachy.

Above our feet, we’re also incorporating subtle rope details elsewhere in our wardrobes. Selected Femme’s rope-strap black midi (£95), Asos Design’s playsuit with waist tie (£28) and Bali-made brand Isa Boulder’s glamorously twisted swimwear (from £80) are ideal for upcoming holidays. Rope belts are a design classic: H&M’s one-strand white design (£9.99) and wide creamy knotted style will suit minimalists (£17.99), while Free People’s three-stand black and gold version is more bohemian (£68). French Connection’s caramel-coloured chunky rope handle bag (£50) is perfect for pub trips and festivals, while & Other Stories’ gold hoop earrings (£13) and necklace (£23) are a subtle way to try the trend. Money for old rope never looked so good.
