Immersive art is going nowhere in 2022 – book these two new exhibitions now

2021 was the year of the immersive art experience – our Instagram feeds have been clogged with pictures of Yayoi Kusama’s long-awaited Infinity Mirror Rooms at Tate Modern since it opened in May, followed closely by not one, but two installations celebrating the famed Dutch painter Vincent Van Gogh (the first is now in Manchester after a stint in Kensington Gardens, the other in Shoreditch). And set to continue the trend in 2022 is a never-before-seen experience dedicated to the legacy of Frida Kahlo and Diego Rivera, opening in London in the spring.

Showcasing over 300 projections, Mexican Geniuses: A Frida and Diego Immersive Experience (16 April-5 June; £27.40) will transport visitors into the world of two of the most prolific artists of the 20th century. Bringing to life the beauty, emotion and transcendence of Frida and Diego’s works, along with a virtual reality experience that transports you to Mexico, the exhibition will give an insight into the lives of the iconic couple, including the influence they had on each other. Although the location details are still under wraps, you can book tickets now. Also setting up in London next year at an unconfirmed location is Klimt: The Immersive Experience (21 July-30 September; £19.90) which will splash the golden palette of the beloved Austrian modernist over a 20,000 square feet, two-storey venue using state-of-the-art video mapping technology. Because why just look at art when you can become part of it?

Still hunting for Christmas presents? Consider these subscriptions your festive fairy godmother

If you’ve been too preoccupied by *insert depressing news here* to finish your Christmas shopping in time for Royal Mail’s final post dates and don’t want to brave the shops for obvious reasons, subscription gifts are here to save the (big) day. No postage, no wrapping and no fuss – just a present that continues to keep on giving months after the tree has been taken down. What’s not to love?

With January social lives looking uncertain, a subscription to Stylist’s monthly print magazine (£1 for first three issues, then £4 per quarter) guarantees to keep them entertained at home, while bibliophiles will love Books That Matters’ monthly send (£17/month) of thought-provoking literature by female and non-binary authors accompanied by a handful of themed gifts from independent creatives. Either pairs perfectly with Cake or Death’s three-month Brownie Subscription box (£45) – we advise opting for the sea salt, peanut and Biscoff flavour to banish any January blues. And if the cheese monster in your life doesn’t get their fill this Christmas, Cheesegeek’s subscription box (£30 for three months) goes beyond your standard Cheddar to please all fromage fanatics. Still have those tricky-to-buy-for few? Leaf Envy’s monthly supply of beautiful botanicals and pots (£35/month) will keep their house looking Insta-ready, while Hoohaa’s unisex monthly perfume edits (£14.95/month) are designed to be worn by everyone for effortless gifting. Whatever 2022 holds, these are definitely gifts that will keep on giving.
