The producers of Line of Duty are back with a tense Sunday night crime drama

When it comes to autumnal Sunday nights, there’s only one thing on the TV agenda: a BBC crime drama that grips the nation. Fans of Line of Duty and Bodyguard should set a reminder now for Showtrial, the producers’ latest offering that starts this weekend – over five episodes, it tells the story of a high-profile court case that sees a privileged young woman charged with conspiracy to commit murder. When student Talitha Campbell (Celine Buckens), the estranged daughter of a billionaire property developer, is accused of murdering a fellow student, her fate rests in the hands of solicitor Cleo Roberts (Tracy Ifeachor). The wealthy family soon find itself in the eye of a media storm as the nation questions whether Campbell is a damaged scapegoat or cold-blooded killer.

Putting a spotlight on both the legal system and the police, Showtrial explores the impact of prejudice, politics and the media. “The first two utterly absorbing episodes writhe with tension, setting the scene before the trial begins,” says Stylist Loves deputy editor Annie Simpson. “It’s immediately obvious that the dynamic between Campbell and Roberts is pivotal to the entire plot and that beneath the student’s privilege, cocky facade and shocking lack of empathy lies something much deeper – but the question remains, what? Though initially unlikeable, it’s through this burgeoning relationship that we see Campbell’s truth and decipher whether she really is capable of her crimes.” Consider the Vigil-shaped hole in your life filled…  Starts Sunday 31 October, 9pm, BBC One

Cottagecore fans, rejoice: the new Batsheva x Laura Ashley collection is finally here

As the saying goes, what goes around comes around. After the renaissance of Fiorucci and Ugg, it’s beloved British stalwart Laura Ashley’s turn, thanks to a new collaboration with New York label Batsheva. Founded by Batsheva Hay in 2016, it has a devoted following amongst the likes of Natalie Portman and Margot Robbie for its subversively feminine pieces, even dressing Kamala Harris’ stepdaughter Ella Emhoff at January’s Presidential inauguration. Now, an edit of the Laura Ashley collection has dropped in the UK – and cottagecore fans are going to want everything.

Proving that Little House On The Prairie is still very much a source of major style inspiration, 10 pieces are now available at Matches Fashion after last week’s US launch, reinterpreting Batsheva’s exaggerated silhouettes with whimsical prints from the Laura Ashley archives. “Batsheva is an insider favourite for vintage-inspired feminine designs,” says Billie Bhatia, Stylist’s fashion features editor. “Having always cited Laura Ashley as the brand’s inspiration, this collaboration feels like a full circle moment. It’s packed full of floral prints and stays true to those Batsheva elements we’ve come to expect – puffed sleeves, frilled details and loose shapes.” Billie’s picks? The patterned high neck blouse (£135), floral smock dress (£210), and printed prairie dress (£125), all of which can be seamlessly mixed into your wardrobe with hiking boots and a chunky knit. “Delightfully feminine but still very wearable, snap these up ASAP.” Payday couldn’t have come at a better time. From £98, matchesfashion.com

Anyone for bingo?

It’s official – this year we’re not waiting for December to kick off party season. No, after last-year’s non-event, we’re starting early with our celebrations, which is why we’ve already got our names down for a big night out at Dabbers Social Bingo, an interactive experience in East Central London that gives the venerable old game a glamorous gameshow-style makeover, with line-ups boasting the best comedians, performers and musicians in the country.

There’s also a mouthwatering new food menu to be discovered, putting a twist on some of your favourite retro dishes and drinks. Think superior bar snacks like the pickle-back corn dog and sharing dishes such as the big dipper (a baked camembert nestled inside a pineapple skewered with appetisers), alongside showstoppers like the pearly kween – a passion fruit gel and citrus caviar, topped with a vodka pearl, served in an oyster shell and accompanied by a Prosecco shot. Just hit the button below to book your trip, and start brushing up on your bingo calls…
