Trust us, Nicola Coughlan’s new fictional comedy podcast will have you in hysterics

It’s been two-and-a-half long years since the second season of Derry Girls finished on Channel 4, but while we itch for the third and final installment of the quick-witted show about a group of Northern Irish teen schoolgirls, its breakout star Nicola Coughlan has delivered something just as good. Dropping yesterday, Whistle Through The Shamrocks is a six-part weekly podcast written by playwright Camilla Whitehill and Galway-born Coughlan (who also stars) that’ll guarantee some much-needed laughs on your commute.

Set in the fictional chip-making Irish town of Ballysnavougherenn, it follows the lives of the poverty-stricken, potato-peeling O’Flanerhyn family as they run into strife with their evil English landlord, Cromwell Dumblington (played by Coughlan’s Bridgerton co-star Ben Miller). Throw in the Romeo and Juliet-style love affair between his rich daughter (Susan Wokoma) and the O’Flanerhyn’s impoverished son and naturally, hilarity ensues. “In just the first few minutes, you realise how wonderfully satirical the show is,” says Stylist Loves writer Kiran Meeda. “The classic 50s radio drama format has been modernised by the actors chatting in between – similar to the rapport in My Dad Wrote A Porno. Everything is up for mockery, from the silenced woman trope to the complete Irishness of the O’Flanerhyn family – I couldn’t stop laughing.” With Queer Eye’s Jonathan Van Ness also on the cast list and a rumoured appearance by Fleabag’s Andrew Scott, we suggest hitting the subscribe button, stat. Listen on Apple Podcasts and Spotify

In partnership with Samsung
Meet the TV designed to match your style

If you’ve painstakingly crafted an interiors look full of sensitively chosen pieces, all conforming to a cleverly constructed colour scheme, a hulking great television can stick out like a sore thumb. That’s why the Samsung Frame is the aesthete’s choice when it comes to tech. Designed to look like a picture frame, this ultra-thin unit now comes with a choice of 40 detachable coloured bezels, allowing you to integrate it into any space, regardless of your style.

The on-screen display is also fully customisable, allowing you to show your choice of artwork when you’re not bingeing Netflix*, while the powerful QLED 4K TV display** means that you won’t be disappointed when you are. Factor in a slimline wall mount that lets you hang it like an actual picture with no distracting cables in the way, and you’ve got a genuine head-turner. Hang it in the Louvre, or indeed, the lounge.

What She Loves: Alex Scott
The former professional footballer, TV presenter and this week’s Stylist cover star shares her current obsessions

What she’s listening to:
“I really like it when people say, ‘You should really listen to this’, or I’ve read a book and they talk about a podcast so I go and listen to it. I listen to the Ted Talks podcast, Adwoa Aboah’s The Gurls Talk Podcast and Glennon Doyle’s We Can Do Hard Things when I’m going on a walk, a hike or a run. I want to come away having learned something.”

Whats in her beauty kit:
“I’m loving 111Skin sheet masks (£20) and under eye masks (£65 for 8) – because I’m travelling loads on trains or in cars, I feel refreshed and hydrated after sitting there with one on. I’m also starting to experiment a lot more with make-up. Charlotte Tilbury’s Airbrush Flawless Filter Foundation (£34) in 10 Neutral and Brow Fix (£19) are my go-to at the moment. I’ve just had my brows laminated so anything that helps me shape them is good.”

What she’s reading:
Power Hour (£14.99) by Adrienne Herbert makes you look at all the stuff you can do if you reset and use your time wisely within an hour. I really enjoyed it – I like books that make me think about life in a certain way.”

What she’s eating:
“I looooove crisps. I can’t help myself. I don’t buy the little packs, I buy a big pack and can eat the whole lot. I love crisps from Eat Real (from £0.99) but the older I get, the more I tend to go for ready-salted crisps.”
