Meet the artist tackling post-pandemic grief through the medium of ice cream

Whether lockdown left you longing for socialisation or appreciating a slower pace of life, we can all agree that the past year has been a lot. And in many ways, it’s been defined by grief. “We have all experienced a loss of some sort, whether it is a physical loss of loved ones, or a lifestyle and routine,” says British artist Annie Nicholson, aka the Fandangoe Kid.

Nicholson has spent the last decade creating large-scale artworks designed to de-stigmatise grief, after most of her immediate family died in an accident in 2011. Her latest conversation-starting project is a riotously colourful ice cream van named Fandangoe Whip, in which she’ll be touring the UK and serving up honest chats (and mint choc chip) throughout this summer and into autumn. Early August will see her pitch up at the Design Museum in London before heading off to Margate, Manchester, Liverpool, Scotland and more; keep an eye on the Whip’s exact whereabouts by visiting Nicholson’s website or following her on Instagram. Forget ice and a slice – after the year we’ve had, we’ll take ice cream and advice any day. Free; fandangoekid.com

In partnership with Typology
Meet the perfect scalp skincare treatment

How much time do you spend pampering your scalp? Chances are it isn’t very long, which is a pity, since the skin on your head is an area crying out for a bit of TLC. From excess sebum and itching to dandruff and hair loss, your scalp can be prone to a whole host of issues, which is why French skincare brand Typology has launched Racines, a new range of hair products designed to target all the scalp’s specific needs.

The collection includes a trio of targeted scalp serums, containing at least 97% naturally derived ingredients such as zinc, nettle and ginger, as well as a pair of nourishing and protective hair oils made from 100% naturally derived ingredients like acai, hibiscus and argan oils. With all products free of sulphates and silicones, you can look forward to a happier scalp and, therefore, happier hair.

Embrace the spirit of maximalism with Paloma Faith’s new interiors range

Prefer your decor to be pared-back, neutral and Japandi-style sleek? Look away now. Inspired by her eclectic personal style and the Architectural Digest-approved renovation of her east London townhouse, Paloma Faith has just launched her own homeware brand. And in the best possible way, it’s a minimalist’s nightmare.

Bursting with character yet surprisingly practical, Paloma Home draws on Faith’s love of retro glamour, 70s bohemia and rock ‘n’ roll, featuring everything from scatter cushions to vintage-inspired upholstery fabrics. We love the pouncing tiger-print cushion (£30) and jade chinoiserie wallpaper (£35), but the real hero pieces are the opulent bedding sets available in 10 original prints (£85 each). Happily, prices start from £21, so you can channel the vibe of Faith’s funhouse even if you aren’t planning a full-scale makeover. If you’re a member of the ‘leopard print is a neutral’ fan club, this collection has your name all over it. palomahome.com
