When it was announced that the Friends cast was getting back together for a one-off TV special, you may have felt a mixture of excitement and trepidation. Rumours of a reunion had swirled for so long that it seemed entirely possible the real thing could fall flat. But having watched the long-awaited episode before it arrived on UK TV today, we promise it lives up to the hype.
“Despite being a Friends super-fan, I’m also a huge cynic, so I was fully braced for Friends: The Reunion to be disappointing,” says Stylist Loves’ deputy editor Moya Crockett. “But it’s a delight – the televisual equivalent of sipping hot chocolate while wrapped in a warm fluffy blanket. Seeing Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, Matt LeBlanc, Matthew Perry and David Schwimmer return to the Friends set is genuinely poignant, and I loved watching them reminisce about filming (it’s also fascinating to hear from the show’s creators, producers and guest stars). Yes, with a two-hour run time, it could do with an edit, and yes, the OTT celebrity cameos add very little to proceedings. But there’s sincere warmth, laugh-out-loud humour and undeniable chemistry, too – all the ingredients that made Friends so magical in the first place.” Watch now on Sky and streaming service NOW
