| Netflix’s new series is here to fill the Game Of Thrones-shaped hole in your life | It’s been 10 years since Game Of Thrones first roared onto our screens, so you’d better believe we’re ready for a new fantasy TV show. And Shadow And Bone, which drops on Netflix today, is one hell of a fantasy TV show. With a gripping story, high production values and obscenely talented cast, the adaptation of Leigh Bardugo’s popular novel series follows soldier Alina Starkov (Jessie Mei Li), whose life is turned upside down when she unleashes an extraordinary power that could set her country free.
“I’m calling it now; Shadow And Bone is better than Game Of Thrones,” says Stylist’s digital editor-at-large Kayleigh Dray. “Not only does it tick every fantasy box going (the holy triumvirate of magic, peril and a ‘chosen one’), it also boasts a bevy of strong female characters and the diversity that many of the genre’s shows lack. The story often skews towards the dark side – but they keep things balanced with some cheeky heists and criminal activity. And while there are just eight episodes, each one is as gripping as the last. I gobbled up all of them over a long weekend and haven’t stopped thinking (or talking) about them since.” Watch on Netflix now

| “The Best Thing I’ve Ever Bought” In the continuation of our series, Stylist’s executive print editor Tracy Ramsden shares the one purchase that brings her immense joy | “Every year for the last 10 years I have invested in a new pair of almost identical Birkenstock Arizona sandals. I’ve had them in black, white, navy (twice), brown, suede, leather, a deep burgundy delightfully named ‘Zinfandel’ and (long ago) metallic gold. I’m not sure if I feel proud or embarrassed at my blatant refusal to step outside of my comfort zone. But no matter, because last year I discovered that Birkenstocks were not just for spring/summer, but for life. I found validation in a winter version of my old faithfuls and I may never wear another shoe again.
As it did for many, lockdown triggered in me a desire for comfort and reassurance which I found in the unexpected form of my first pair of shearling-lined Birkies. We’ve been through a lot together, my Boston clogs and I, locked down through the long winter when house shoes were not only acceptable but encouraged. Granted, I haven’t yet worn them beyond the end of my garden path but they barely left my feet for three months and I’m not planning to remove them anytime soon. The great shoe leveller, whether worn with jeans or a spring dress, they make me feel a whole lot more like me.” Boston Shearling Clogs, £135, Birkenstock
